چکیده
Abstract Stable isotope analysis of animal tissue samples is increasingly used to study the trophic ecology target species. The isotopic signatures respond type diet, but also environmental conditions their habitat. In case omnivorous, seasonal or opportunistic feeding species, interpretation values more complex, as it largely determined by food selection, either due individual choice because availability. We analysed C and N isotopes in brown bear ( Ursus arctos ) hair from four isolated populations south-western Europe (Cantabrian, Pyrenees, Central Apennines Alpine) accounting for geographical climatic differences among areas. found inter-population that cannot be attributed alone, indicating at least some bears relatively higher altitude experiencing precipitation (Pyrenees) show a greater consumption foods than those lower altitudes (Cantabrian Apennines). quantification niche space using Layman’s metrics identified significant similarities between Cantabrian Apennine markedly differ Pyrenean Alpine. Our provides baseline allow further comparisons spaces broad ranged omnivorous mammal, whose European distribution requires conservation attention especially southern populations.

Physiology of the European brown bear (Ursus arctos arctos)
Although the American black (Ursus americanus) and American brown (grizzly) (Ursus arctos horribilis) bears have been the subjects of intensive physiological research, very little so far, has been done to understand the physiology of the European brown bear (Ursus arctos arctos). In our laboratory the research on the physiology of European brown bears started 10 years ago. Between 1987 and 1997...
متن کاملFallot's tetralogy in a European brown bear (Ursus arctos).
A congenital heart malformation was diagnosed in a free-ranging adult female European brown bear (Ursus arctos) found dead due to intraspecific violence. At necropsy, the heart had all four features of Fallot's tetralogy. No further malformations were identified in the animal, which was of normal size and weight for its age, in normal body condition, and had probably borne young. The heart cond...

A 22-year-old male European brown bear (Ursus arctos arctos) was presented to the Onderstepoort Veterinary Academic Hospital after an acute onset of hind limb paralysis 4 days earlier. Previous radiographs revealed marked degenerative joint disease of the stifles, tarsi and digits. The clinical findings were consistent with acute disc prolapse. Lateral radiographs of the entire vertebral column...
متن کاملPlatelet function in brown bear (Ursus arctos) compared to man
BACKGROUND Information on hemostasis and platelet function in brown bear (Ursus arctos) is of importance for understanding the physiological, protective changes during hibernation. OBJECTIVE The study objective was to document platelet activity values in brown bears shortly after leaving the den and compare them to platelet function in healthy humans. METHODS Blood was drawn from immobilize...
متن کاملHumeral chondrosarcoma in a Hokkaido brown bear (Ursus arctos yesoensis).
Humeral chondrosarcoma was found in an 18-year-old male Hokkaido brown bear (Ursus arctos yesoensis). Necropsy revealed a large firm mass under the left superficial pectoral muscle at the axillary region. The mass involved the left shoulder joint and peripheral muscles, and connected to the head of the humerus with osteolysis. Histopathologically, the mass was composed of irregularly shaped myx...
